FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR SCHOOL

What ages do you teach?

We have programs for all ages. If you have a young boy or girl that can follow simple direction on any level, we will teach them to love martial arts. If you are getting a little older and feeling limited in your physical abilities, you will be very surprised at what you can accomplish through our training. You can find a fit in one or more of our programs. We firmly believe that martial arts training is for everybody!

Who teaches your classes?

All of our classes are taught by highly skilled and highly trained Black Belt instructors. In fact, we often have more than one on the floor at any given time. Come on in and say hello and we will gladly introduce you to our staff.

How much are classes? Are there contracts?

We have many different programs that start as low as $55 per month. If you have multiple family members that want to train, you will be hard pressed to find more conducive financial setups than our school has. We have NO CONTRACTS and do all of our billing in house. All the experts on how to run a martial arts business say this is the wrong way to do it, we feel it is the only way to do it. We want your monthly payment to be the best money you spend for you and your family.

What kind of martial arts do you teach in the Youth Program?

We believe first and foremost that whatever art you train in, it must be taught by a good instructor at convenient times and a convenient location that you feel you can benefit from. Having said that, we are proud to teach the Counterpoint Tactical System (CTS) as our foundation for our Youth Martial Arts students. CTS combines Empty Hand, Weapons, Stand-up Grappling and Ground work to create a fantastic integrated martial arts system that will really work if called upon. Our more advanced young students will also have the oppurtunity to learn a lot of the fancy moves seen on TV and in movies like The Karate Kid and The Last Airbender. They will also have their choice of traditional  weapons to learn, such as Staff, Nunchaku and Fan et. al.

What kind of martial arts do you teach adults?

Our adult martial arts and fitness program has many facets. Of course, we teach the Counterpoint Tactical System as well as seperate classes in American Kenpo and Cacoy Doce Pares Eskrima and all of our adult students are encouraged to train in our Kickboxing classes for improved fitness and body mechanics.

Is sparring required?

Our youth martial artists must first satisfy the requirements of our entry program which introduces them to the basics required and trains them to control their techniques so as to make it (and them) safe. We use sparring at our school as a way of improving our speed, timing and reflex action. Essentially, we are testing the effectiveness of what we train. Through controlled contact with proper equipment, you can get instant feedback that is integral to self defense training. We spend very little time and effort to get good at certain sparring type games that are taught at some schools.

Is it dangerous? Can my child get hurt?

Martial arts is one of the least dangerous things you can do. According national studies, there are far more injuries in gymnastics and cheerleading for example. Our weapons training is very controlled and reserved for students that have earned the privilege. We do not train submissions so no one will get "choked out" or worse.

Do your students compete in tournaments?

Tournament competition is available to our students but is not required or even encouraged. Everything that we do is based on self defense and survival, not to win a game/ match.

Hey are you the guy that...

Yes, we are probably the people that you have seen before. Through our Community Outreach program we have done or are currently do regular classes at Del Prado and Whispering Pines Elementary schools; the academies at B’nai Isreal, B’nai Torah and Boca Raton Jewish Learning Center; St. Andrews Summer Camp, the JCC Summer camp and Coconut Cove Water Park to name a few. Mrs. Haas has been invited on and featured in local newscasts as an expert on children’s issues. We perform demonstrations all over town and chances are you have seen us. We have taught classes that have earned local Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts safety patches and badges.

Are there any hidden costs (like equipment)?

There are no hidden cost of training. We do not charge testing fees at the introductory level and any other expenditures that you may incur are all well known long before they are required.

How long does it take to get a black belt?

You know what they say about this one…if you have to ask, you probably don’t want to know the answer. But seriously we are very proud of the Black Belts we have graduated to date and will maintain a standard of excellence to achieve this milestone. Our saying in the school is “We don’t say it is going to be easy, we just say it is going to be worth it!”

My child (or I) already has a belt from another school. Will he have to start over?

We believe that any belt you have earned can not be taken away. Through discussion with the instructors the student themselves will decide the answer to this question. We are more concerned with the learning and representation of the next belt. It is understood that you will be doing something new. Most people these days are familiar with the idea of playing with different teams. You wouldn't wear your school soccer shirt to travel team games.

If I already have a black belt in another martial art, how hard will it be to learn yours?

We have several students that fit in this category and they are very impressed with what we have to offer. With it’s common sense approach to practical self defense any experienced martial artist would understand it’s value.

Do you have to go year-round? Or can you take time (months) off for baseball/sleep-away camp/etc.?

Life can be complicated at times and we appreciate any opportunity we are given to teach the people of this community.
